There was a group of students who made the decision to remain seated during the national anthem at the USM home game against Rice on Saturday, October 1st. The students said they were met with physical and verbal abuse as a result. The students who exercised the right to peaceful protest had trash, soda and alcoholic beverage thrown at them while seated. The University of Southern Mississippi is undergoing a full investigation of the incident and intends to bring justice to those responsible for the abuse.
