Hattiesburg, MS – September 28, 2016 – For more than 30 years, the surgeons of Southern Eye Center have focused on one goal – to help as many people as they can enjoy life with better vision.
It is this mission that guided Dr. Lynn McMahan, founder of Southern Eye Center, to introduce a program that helps those who meet the visual and financial requirements have cataract surgery at no cost.
The program coincides with national Make a Difference Day on October 21, one of the largest annual single days of service nationwide. Since 1992, volunteers and communities have come together on Make a Difference Day with a single purpose: to improve the lives of others.
Once again, Southern Eye Center is partnering with optometrists from across the Pine Belt to improve the lives of many cataract patients who would not be able to afford the procedure otherwise.
Optometrists have been asked to refer qualifying patients, who are struggling with the onset of cataracts. These patients will benefit from free cataract procedures, performed by a Southern Eye Center surgeon on Make a Difference Day.
“The community is our mission field,” said Dr. Kiper Nelson, chief cataract surgeon at Southern Eye Center. “Participating in Make a Difference Day is a blessing to each of us. Being a part of the life-changing procedures for these deserving patients is truly an honor.”
