The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) and Mississippi State University Extension Service are hosting two pond management workshops. One workshop will be held at Paul B. Johnson State Park Office located at 319 Geiger Lake Road in Hattiesburg on Tuesday, April 10th at 6:30 p.m. Those interested in attending this workshop are asked to pre-register by calling the Forrest County Extension Service Office at (601) 545-6083.
The second workshop will be held at the Lafayette County Extension Office at 101 Veterans Drive in Oxford on Thursday, April 12. A meal ($10 charge) will be served at 6 p.m., and the workshop will begin at 6:30. Those interested in attending the workshop and eating the meal are asked to register by calling the Lafayette County Extension Office at (662) 234-4451 or emailing Margaret Webb at [email protected] by April 10.
An hour-long presentation will include topics on pond design, fish stocking, harvest, aquatic vegetation control, liming, and fertilization. A question-and-answer period will follow. “These workshops allow biologists and private pond owners the opportunity to discuss all aspects of pond management,” said MDWFP Fisheries Bureau Assistant Director Larry Bull. “We talk to many people each year who request assistance managing their ponds. This is a great way for us to provide personal how-to information that can help pond owners achieve their goals.”
