The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol and other state and local law officers, are on a manhunt for Lawrence County resident, Tony Wilson. Wilson, 56, is believed to have shot and killed his neighbor, Henry Peavey, Tuesday afternoon. Wilson is also believed to have set fire to Peavey’s property with Peavey and his wife still inside. The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call from Wilson’s girlfriend at 11:45 Tuesday morning, saying he had shot Peavey, burned his property and was holed up in a trailer on Frog Ridge Rd. The incident occurred in the ‘Center’ community, southeast of Lincoln County between Jayess and Monticello . Law enforcement called in SWAT and was prepared to take Wilson into custody. Wilson was not found in the trailer, nor was he found in any other structures on his property.
Peavey’s wife is believed to have suffered from a head injury and was rushed to University Medical Center in Jackson to be treated for burns. The manhunt continues into Wednesday. Law enforcement has called in all of its resources including search dogs and helicopters.
