A child was killed Friday night in a home on Black Polk Road in Prentiss. The child was identified by the county coroner as Messiah Griffith, age 4. According to Sheriff Ron Strickland, the father, Belton Sims picked up Griffith at his mother’s home and was taken back to the home at 250 Black Polk Road. There the boy was assaulted, giving him multiple bruises. Sims took him to the Jefferson Davis County hospital where Griffith was pronounced dead. Sims was then arrested and charged with murder. In his initial court hearing on Monday he was not allowed bond.
