The 34th annual Run for the Roses 5K race was Saturday, April the 8th and lots of folks from the local area and beyond were in attendance. Runners and walkers flocked into town on the crisp, cool Spring morning to take on the 5K challenge. The overall race winner was Ryan Crandall from Madison, MS with a time of 18:41. Coming in close behind, taking the title for overall winner in the female division was Angel Overstreet from Magee, MS with a time of 19:21 in the 5K.

There was also a category to recognize local area winners. The Jefferson Davis County winners of the race were TJ Davis of Prentiss and Pam Johnson of Bassfield. Lots of youth participated in the race, but Prentiss Christian School took the award for most local school participants. There was even a category which recognized the oldest aged participant, which went to Sylvia Ryder.

After the race, folks made their way over to the Long Leaf Trace Park to fuel back up with sausage dogs and funnel cakes while awaiting the official results. Brian Turnage provided some DJ entertainment while visitors walked through the rows of local vendors set up in the park.

WJDR even gave away a free weekend getaway to New Orleans to drawing winner Rod Simmons from Jackson, MS.

A great time was had by all and the 34th annual Run for the Roses 5K event was a great success for the Town of Prentiss and all of those involved. We have heard rumors that next year’s 35th run will be an event you cannot miss.
